THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION IS OVER WITH HUGE FUNDING CUTS TO UCP OF SOUTH FLORIDA.
First, there is an across the board cut for all Medicaid waiver services of 4%. The cuts will be $700,000 to our South Florida operations. This is effective July 1st. This will mean the loss of numerous jobs and reduction and elimination of consumer services.
Also mandated are additional cuts in September for $350,000 to $800,000 as a result of the September 1st cuts. That’s around $1.5 Million dollars in total. Then, we will have to deal with the further cuts as they may come down.
The Charter schools and private school will also see a large cut. The base student allocation for every child in Florida is being reduced by 7.9%. It is difficult to put a number to this because we get weighted factors because of the type of children served and this could result in an even larger cut.
We have numerous other funding sources that are being reduced like our County grants, etc.
